DRIED FENUGREEK SEED Trigonella foenum-graecum
Dried fenugreek seed is one of the oldest and most multi-functional herbs in the world, with records of its use stretching back over 6,000 years to ancient Egypt, India, and the Middle East. Both a prized culinary spice and a serious medicinal herb, fenugreek seeds carry a warm, slightly bitter, maple-like aroma and flavor that makes them instantly recognizable. They are a foundational herb in Ayurvedic medicine and a staple of traditional cooking from North Africa to South Asia.
Fenugreek is particularly celebrated for its ability to support healthy blood sugar levels, promote milk production in nursing mothers, and support digestive and hormonal health. Its seeds are rich in soluble fiber, particularly a compound called galactomannan, which slows the absorption of sugars in the digestive tract and contributes to healthy blood glucose management.
